Events At Our Center

In addition to Field Days at other Centers, a variety of events take place throughout the year at the West Tennessee AgResearch and Education Center. Below is a schedule of major events in 2025, and we invite you to participate! More details are included as additional information becomes available.

2026 Cotton Focus

Date: February 19

Time: 8 a.m. – Noon

Explore essential information on Tennessee’s cotton industry, including production practices, industry updates, market predictions, and more. UTIA researchers and Extension specialists will spotlight a variety of agronomic topics, including herbicide effectiveness, weed control, disease management, irrigation, and more.

Pesticide recertification points will be available to attendees.

2026 Spring Plant Sale

Date: Friday, May 1 – Saturday, May 2

Time: 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Fill your lawn and garden with beautiful locally grown plants at the 2026 Spring Plant Sale, hosted by UT Gardens, Jackson, and Madison County Master Gardeners!

Shop more than 500 different kinds of annuals, perennials, trees, conifers, shrubs, vegetables, herbs, succulents, and house plants. The Madison County Master Gardeners’ sale will take place inside the West Tennessee AgResearch and Education Center, while UT Gardens, Jackson’s, sale will be outside.

The complete plant list will be posted below about a week before the sale!

2026 Cotton Scout School

Time: TBD

Join UTIA researchers and Extension specialists for classroom lectures and hands-on trainings exploring the latest cotton production and field scouting techniques. Topics will include cotton development, identification, weed control, disease and insect management, and more.

Pesticide points in categories 1, 4, 10, and 12 will be offered, as well as a complimentary lunch. There is no cost to attend, and preregistration is not required.

2026 Garden Buzz: The Celebration of Pollinators

UT Gardens, Jackson, will once again host this annual celebration of pollinators and their vital role in our world. Attendees can explore educational booths, sample locally harvested honey, explore the gardens, and even take a collection of plants home to benefit these insects in their own neighborhood.

More details and the official event date will be announced closer to June!

2026 Weed Tour

Date: June 17

Time: 8:30 a.m. – Noon

Explore field presentations of more than 40 weed management tests in cotton, corn and soybeans, providing an in-depth look into current UTIA pesticide research.

Recertification points will be offered to attendees, along with a light breakfast.

2026 Soybean Scout School

Date: TBD (July)

Time: TBD

Learn the basics of soybean growth, identification, scouting, pest control, and general management, courtesy of UTIA Extension specialists and researchers. Pesticide points are available, as well as a free sweep net and notebook while supplies last.

The event is sponsored by the Tennessee Soybean Promotion Board.

2026 Cotton Tour

Date: September 9

Time: 8 a.m. – Noon

Explore on-site cotton research plots during this free annual field day. Attendees will gain valuable insight into various aspects of crop production, including ThryvOn cotton, variety testing, cover crops, irrigation, nutrient management, disease treatment, weed and insect control, and more. Certified Crop Adviser and pesticide recertification points are available, as well as a complimentary lunch at the end of the tour.

2026 Fall in the Gardens

Thursday, October 1: 9 a.m. – 8 p.m.
Friday, October 2: 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Join UT Gardens, Jackson for this free, family-friendly gardening event!

On Thursday, attendees will enjoy presentations from guest lecturers, guided garden tours, demonstrations by Madison County Master Gardeners, wagon tours of the Center, local vendors, food trucks, and the beginning of the fall plant sale with hundreds of varieties of plants available for purchase. The second day of the event will feature the fall plant sale only.

The 2026 guest speaker is Susan Martin, renowned horticulturist from Michigan. Susan has more than 25 years of professional gardening experience within both the industry and private sectors. Her expertise in garden design, perennials, and more makes this a presentation you won’t want to miss!
